Our Services

Our process: 

First, book an initial thirty-minute consultation with one of our editors. In your email, please provide:

  • A description of the services you are seeking, including the length of the draft you would like edited and any particular issues you hope to address
  • Timeline in which edits must be completed

We will follow up with available time slots and a request for your draft and payment details.

At the initial consultation, we will discuss: 

  • What services we can offer based on what you sent us and your timeline
  • How the editing process will work
  • Any additional information needed by the editor or you, the client, to determine whether we should move forward
  • Pricing and next steps

If the editor and client agree upon the terms discussed in the consultation, we will provide you with a contract, including an outline of the timeline and services expected and guaranteed.

How we work:

The specific workflow for your project will depend on you and the editor, but we follow a general set of guidelines:

  • Book Manuscripts: Please submit a complete copy of the book manuscript to your editor, along with any peer reviews or other feedback you want to address in revisions, as well as the style sheet of your target publisher. Typically, your editor will first read the whole manuscript to become intimately familiar with your ideas and to look for structural issues that need to be addressed. Then your editor will work chapter-by-chapter, presenting you with an edited chapter, with comments and edits in Track Changes, for your approval. Once every chapter is edited and approved, the editor will make one more pass to ensure coherence and flow across the whole text.
  • Articles: Articles are usually completed in one pass. Please submit the style sheet of your target journal, as well as any peer reviews or other feedback that you need to address.

Typically, one book chapter about 20,000 words in length takes 4–8 hours to edit, depending on the kind of editing needed.

Our prices: 

Our prices depend on the intensity of the work to be performed. This will be determined by looking at an initial sample of your work. We will give you a quote before signing a contract. Rates are at the discretion of each editor, but these are our guidelines:

  • $30 for a 30-minute initial consultation 
  • $40/hour or $0.02/word for basic editing and proofreading (~2–3 edits/page)
  • $50/hour or $0.03/word for more extensive editing, including restructuring and checking citations and bibliography (~4–8 edits/page)
  • $60/hour or $0.04/word for heavy editing, including significant restructuring or rewriting, or extensive work on citations and bibliography (~9+ edits/page)
  • $90/hour or $0.15/word (or Chinese character) for translation or retranslation of texts
  • Rush pricing: If you are on a tight deadline, we may require an additional fee to prioritize your editing job, to be negotiated with your editor.
